I first met Peter in 1973 when I came to Kennington School,as a very new teacher and Anmari was in my first class. Laura, typically, took me under her wing and for nearly fifty years Peter and Laura have been wonderful friends and we've shared many happy memories - and a few tragedies - but Peter has been steadfast and reliable in his support, to me at first, my parents, then Terry and his Mum, and our own two children. "Uncle" Peter is our son's Godfather and I am proud that he took such an interest in. Mark's early years. Christmas was always so exciting! Usually Laura's idea for a party but Peter joined in and was always a generous host. Boeing Day and a huge buffet, "Hunt the Party Popper" was the favourite Christmas game. Laura and Peters children were joined by our parents , then our own children, and then Peters' own precious Grandchildren. He was so proud when the Great Grandchikdren came along and posed with the latest addition on his settee to smile at the camera (usually Laura!) One memorable incident at Fern Cottages which I was NEVER allowed to forget was when I was babysitting, Anmar, Sue and Andrew. We had a delicious dessert, very creamy, very squashy, and so flexible my serving ended up on the brand new carpet! What a mess! But Peter forgave me to the extent that he opened his home for me to live at Fern Cottages for a short time before my marriage. It was such a wonderful place to be, full of love, fun and laughter with Peter the patriarch presiding over his Family, calmly but with such pride and just the correct dose of discipline. How he did enjoy his cake and jam sandwiches at tea time! Peter, you will be missed by so many, not least Myrtle!! With thanks for all you gave to me and my family over so many years. Be at peace now with the God you worshipped faithfully all your life. The Whitling Family
